To the Mom Who Feels Like She’s Failing at the One Thing She Was Sure God Called Her To…

Let’s be honest. Some days you feel like the circus clown… Only the clowns have more help and better costumes. Your “classroom” is the kitchen table. Your students? One’s crying, one’s hiding, one’s asking you a question that sounds like it came straight out of a college exam. Meanwhile, the baby’s screaming, the dog just threw up on the rug, and the toddler… well… let’s just say the peanut butter was NOT supposed to be art supplies. And you? You’re standing there with cold coffee, wondering how in the world you ended up in charge of someone’s entire education. "Maybe I’m in over my head." "Maybe I’m wrecking their future." "Maybe they’d be better off with a real teacher." You’ve seen those Instagram-perfect homeschool moms… Neat handwriting on the whiteboard, shelves arranged by color, kids smiling like they just won the lottery for Most Well-Behaved Family. You’ve tried to copy them. You’ve stayed up past midnight rearranging books, printing lesson ...

Trusting in the Lord - Reflections on Proverbs 16:3

Proverbs 16:3 (NIV):

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans."

In our fast-paced lives filled with endless to-do lists and aspirations, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the multitude of tasks and responsibilities that demand our attention. We often find ourselves caught in a cycle of planning, striving, and worrying about the future. Yet, in Proverbs 16:3, we are offered a simple yet profound piece of wisdom: "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."

The Power of Commitment

The word "commit" in this context signifies a deep, unwavering trust and dedication. It’s not just about acknowledging God in our plans but actively entrusting them to Him. When we commit our actions, ambitions, and decisions to the Lord, we are essentially saying, "God, I trust you with my life. I trust you with my dreams, my goals, and my future."

Surrendering Control

One of the most challenging aspects of faith is relinquishing control. As humans, we have a natural tendency to want to control every aspect of our lives. However, true peace and fulfillment come from surrendering that control to God. When we let go of our need to micromanage every detail, we open the door for God to work in ways we could never have imagined.

Trusting God’s Timing

Committing our plans to the Lord also means trusting in His timing. God’s plans and timing are perfect, even when they don’t align with our own schedules or desires. We may face delays, setbacks, or unexpected detours, but we can take comfort in knowing that God is orchestrating everything for our good and His glory.

God’s Promise to Establish Our Plans

The latter part of Proverbs 16:3 offers a reassuring promise: "He will establish your plans." When we commit our ways to the Lord, we can be confident that He will guide and direct us. This doesn’t mean that everything will always go smoothly or that we won’t face challenges. Instead, it means that God will provide the foundation and direction needed to fulfill His purpose in our lives.

Practical Steps to Commit Your Plans to the Lord

  1. Prayer: Start each day with prayer, asking God to guide your steps and bless your efforts.
  2. Study Scripture: Regularly read and meditate on God’s Word to align your desires with His will.
  3. Seek Counsel: Surround yourself with godly mentors and friends who can offer wisdom and encouragement.
  4. Trust and Obey: Act in faith, trusting that God will establish your plans as you obey His leading.

In a world that often emphasizes self-reliance and control, Proverbs 16:3 invites us to a different way of living – one that is rooted in trust and commitment to the Lord. As we surrender our plans to Him, we can rest in the assurance that He will guide us, establish our steps, and bring about His perfect will in our lives. Let us commit to the Lord whatever we do, and watch as He establishes our plans in ways beyond our greatest expectations.

May we find peace and confidence in His unfailing love and wisdom.
